WHY USE FORUM THEATER?
« Forum Theatre uses theatre to achieve social aims. It is a form of theatre that encourages audience interaction and explores different options for dealing with a problem or issue. Forum Theatre is often used by socially excluded and disempowered groups. »
- The group chooses one of the situations mentioned (from the list proposed by the facilitator or a situation mentioned in the discussions during the workshop) and then the group is split between actors (2) and spectators (the rest).
- The two actors start extemporising on the theme mentioned while, the spectators sit around them in a circle and listen.
- When a spectator wishes to intervene in the discussion or take over, just touches the shoulder of one of the actors to take his/her place and they exchange roles.
- During this workshop any participant can reverse the role, the idea being to work collaboratively is to find the most suitable outcome so that the situation ends well.
- Finally, a group debrief time is given during which everyone can brainstorm and intervene on what happened during the forum theatre.
